Background of Presentation

The fictional company, Zankle Technologies, Inc., sells a wearable ankle bracelet to track the user’s exercise. If a user also subscribes to the Zankle+ subscription service, which most users do, the bracelet monitors in real-time various additional health data such as heart rate, HRV, breathing rate, hours of sleep, etc. that is stored by Zankle on behalf of the users. With the Zankle+ service, Zankle sends the users customized and individualized health alerts, containing health data, as push notifications to users’ smartphones. For example, if the anklet detects that a user’s heart rate is highly elevated during activity, Zankle+ will send a notice to that user’s smartphone suggesting that the user slow their heart rate down per that user’s profile (e.g., age, BMI etc.).

Zankle is already a significant player in the wearables market, and they have targets to increase their market share significantly. Zankle has achieved this success without yet incorporating AI into its customer service and marketing efforts, and while they are aware of some AI risks, Zankle’s leadership believes the biggest risk in incorporating more advanced AI for its customer service and marketing efforts is not using it at all. Zankle is evaluating incorporating this more advanced AI as follows:

–        Chatbot For Call Center Assistance

Zankle deals with a number of recurring call center issues, such as product resets, syncing the device with Zankle servers, etc. Zankle wants to use AI to handle these relatively simple tasks.

–        Predictive Analytics For Sales

Zankle is considering combining usage data and CRM data to push its own marketing, or sell ad space, to use. For example, if an individual has not exercised in a while it could push out ads for a gym membership. Marketing folks see even more possibilities, some of which are pretty creepy (think marketing leveraging someone’s perceived religion or ethnicity, as determined by AI).
